Resting Place
…by constantly using your faith, the life of Christ will be released deep inside of you,
and the resting place of his love will become the very source and root of your life.
Ephesians 3:17
Recently I have been challenged on the idea of RESTING PLACE.
In fact, to be completely honest, I had a tantrum in my household of boys last week because my home did not feel like a resting place for my heart with all the constant action, boyness, testosterone and activity.
I know for many of us, Lockdown has challenged our idea of resting place.
For some, the phrase “Stay at Home” is a welcome relief to facing the challenges of the workplace, school or social life in general. And for others, the phrase “Stay at Home” feels like a prison sentence, or perhaps a scheduling to a psychiatric ward.
Our hearts are created to yearn for a resting place, to live from a foundation of peace. And yet what is often painted as a resting place fails to yield the heart rest we long for.
Those who have been in hotel quarantine know precisely what I am talking about.
To be in a hotel with everything done for you sounds like the ultimate resting place. But when you are forced to stay in that room for 2 weeks, without the freedom to come and go as you please, the illusion of resting place fades, and the place of rest becomes a patience test.
So, when Stay at Home fails to yield the rest, and hotel stay is a character test, where is this resting place that our soul desperately needs.
I know of only one place that provides true heart rest.
Only one place where we are not perturbed and shaken by life’s mess.
And it is not in the illusion of a nature retreat (although I would happily accept one right now!), or in the illusion of a beachside bungalow (not that I would knock that back either) or even in the illusion of financial success that reduces the troubles and worries of life. Dare I say it is not even in the illusion of finding “your person” – ahhh, I know I am treading on sacred ground here – sorry Hollywood.
In my tantrum last week, God kindly intervened as I opened His Word, and He gently reminded me that despite my busy household of men, He has amply provided me with a resting place. And it is a promise that is not an illusion that fails to deliver, but a resting place that becomes the very source and root of our life.
It is a place called the resting place of His love.
Have you visited this place?
It is a place you can rest in despite the chaos in your home, the stagnation in quarantine, the stress and demands of the workplace.
It is the real resting place beyond the illusion of natural resting places.
It is the resting place we are created to constantly return to, the source and root of our life.
So, if you are struggling to find rest, visit the resting place of God’s love.
The ticket is faith, it will take you there in the blink of an eye, and in a moment, you will be declaring, “There’s no place like home.”
Big Love, Lovely Peeps, and Happy Long Weekend.
